West Haven Connecticut was settled in 1648 and was originally known as the west farms. It wasn't until 1719 that it became what we know today as the separate parish of West Haven Connecticut. Playing a pivotal role in the American revolutionary war, West Haven was often the port of choice for attacking armies. Thomas Painter is famously depicted on the cities flag; sitting atop Savin Rock watching for enemy ships to arrive.
Due to it's advanced age and as an early settlement, West Haven has several placed depicted on the National Registry of Historic places. One such place is American Mills Web Shop, over on Boston Post Road. Or maybe you can stop in and even see the local Old West Haven High School, which was added in 1985.
Geographically only 11 square miles, bound by the Oyster River, The Long Island Sound and New Haven Harbor; West Haven is a great little port city and makes a wonderful place for any family to take a visit!
